Getting the right plant is key to having a successful garden in a cool climate like the area surrounding Butte.

NCAT’s SIFT farm will hold its 4th annual plant sale on Friday, June 3, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the north side of NCAT at 3040 Continental Drive.
In addition to the plant sale, NCAT specialist Tammy Howard will hold a workshop on organic soil and bed preparation at 4 p.m. on the SIFT farm. It will cover different soil amendments and how to prepare soil for planting.

"This year at the plant sale, we have a wide variety of vegetables and herbs that are adapted to Butte’s cool climate," said Howard, who is the farm’s coordinator. "We are also selling some of the new seed varieties developed by Triple Divide seed in Northwest Montana. Their seeds are grown in Montana and are adapted to the cooler nights that we have here in the summer."

The number and variety of plants offered at the sale this year will be bolstered by the Warm Springs Healing Water Greenhouse project, which will offer bedding plants, flowers, herbs and lettuce bowls.
